Our superb plan-view of Paris early in the seventeenth century was the work of a famous Dutch cartographer, Claes Janz Visscher. It is unsurpassed in its accuracy, wealth of information, decorative appeal, and high quality of craftsmanship. Every building of the city is shown in perspective, and, because of its size, even small structures appear with recognizable detail.
