Although not printed until after 1764, this view shows New York about thirty years earlier. It is the first depiction of the city as seen from the southwest. Fort George at the tip of Manhattan was the chief defensive strongpoint, seen here beyond a British warship thundering a salute. This version displays contemporary color added to the original black and white engraving.
