Abraham Ortelius included this skillfully engraved and strikingly colored map in the first edition of his famous atlas, “Theatrum Orbis Terrarum”. It is recognized as one of the landmarks in American cartography as well as a marvel of Baroque decoration with its elaborate strapwork cartouche and the unusual embellished corners.
