The first Asian settlement of Portugal, Goa served from 1510 as the capital of an expanding colonial empire. From Pieter van der Aa’s “La Galerie Agreable du Monde” of 1729, this is an almost exact duplicate of the 1595 plan in Jan Huyghen van Linschoten’s “Itinerario”.
