Currier and Ives issued this attractively colored lithograph as the first of their large folio city views outside of New York. Prominent features include the Bunker Hill Monument and Charlestown Navy Yard at the right, the old and new statehouses and Boston Common in the center, and Roxbury, South Boston, and Dorchester at the left. In the distance is Cambridge and Harvard University.

The large edition of this view highlights its detail and fine coloring.
