In 1768 the leading print dealer of London jointly published a magnificent set of American views under the title Scenograhia Americana. Among the cities depicted was Boston.

Boston Date: 1769
The copper plate engraved for the 1722 plan of Boston cam into the possession of William Price. From time to time he revised the plate to record additions or changes in the city and published the results with the appropriate date added to the title. This is the last version to appear. The two plans thus provide unique and valuable documentation of Boston's expansion from early in the 18th century to the eve of the Revolutionary War.

Boston Date: 1774
Two centuries ago Paul Revere engraved this as the frontispiece for the Royal American Magazine. It was the last of three views of Boston he prepared. He based this on his earlier engraving showing the landing of British troops in October 1768, an event that hastened the American Revolution. We have doubled the size of the original to show more clearly the many fascinating details of the city and its crowded harbor.

Boston Date: 1775
Our handsome chart of Boston Harbor shows the city at the beginning of the Revolution. This is a fine example of military cartography in the typical red, green, brown, and blue coloring of the period.

Boston Date: 1777
William Faden published this military map of Boston in his North American Atlas to show the location of English and American forces during the siege of the city early in the Revolutionary War.

Boston Date: 1833
John G. Hales used earlier surveys to produce this map in 1820, which he updated in 1833. The survey encompasses greater Boston, including Concord and Salem to the north, Plymouth to the south and E. Sudbury to the west. It is a valuable geographic record of the region, showing railroads, turnpikes, ponds, islands, hills, meeting houses and many settlements. The facsimile is reduced approximately one-fifth from the original size.

Boston Date: 1850
John Bachmann's splendid panorama of Boston in the middle of the 19th century shows the city with its newly planned Public Garden in the foreground adjoining the Common. Beacon Hill and the Statehouse can be seen near the center looking down the business district and the harbor beyond.
