Beginning in 1847, under the direction of Brigham Young, the energetic members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints planned and developed this new town according to the precepts established in 1836 by Joseph Smith.

The museum quality edition of this view is printed on a heavy, cover stock paper and in a larger size from the souvenir version to highlight its lines and shading. This edition is reduced about one-fifth from the size of the original.
