This is the first printed depiction of one of England’s oldest and most important seaports. It appeared in the earliest city atlas to be published, Braun and Hogenberg’s Civitates Orbis Terrarum, issued in six volumes over a period of years. The style of this engraving, combining a plan of the streets with perspectives of all of the buildings, is particularly attractive.
